Formologix was commissioned by HGT Architects to design and fabricate wall sculptures as a space modifier for the new restaurant of Kartika Sari, at Buah Batu, Bandung, Indonesia.
This project consists of four-and half-panels of solid wooden panel measuring 4.9 x 1.8 sqm each. The front surface of the space modifier express a fluid motion which articulated by tweening curves relief, while its back is made as a convex surface.
To facilitate the technical installation and to optimize the use of materials, each panel was divided into 18 units of modules measuring 0.55 x 0.90 sqm each.
Interested in minimizing material waste in the fabrication of the space modifier, Formologix were using parametric modelling to generate the pattern of the surface.
Meanwhile, the use of digital modelling also allows exploring the process of carving the wooden surface through 3-axis milling machine CNC and taking the space modifier into a new direction, offering an alternative to more unique pieces and styles.
